Karratha, Western Australia
Derived from a local Aboriginal word meaning ‘good country’ or ‘soft earth’, Karratha is part of the rugged Pilbara, which is known for its ancient landscapes, red earth, vast mineral deposits and as a global biodiversity hotspot for subterranean fauna. The region covers over 500,000 square kilometres from the Indian Ocean in the west to the border of the Northern Territory in the east.
We recognise and acknowledge the Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi people as the traditional custodians of this land.
